Joseph Simon

8th Grade Homeroom Teacher, Middle School (6-8) Social Studies and Religion Teacher

Hello!

I have been teaching here at SSPP for over 17 years!!! I attended SSPPe for K-8th Grade and I am now you can find me teaching in Room 207! I love it so much that I bring my whole family along. I have 3 daughters here, and my wife is our School Librarian. Outside of school, I love working on home improvement projects or fixing our cars, playing Super Mario on the Wii with the Fam, or just chillin.

My Most Memorable Classroom Moment(s)

Some of my favorite memories come from my 1st year teaching at SSPP, when I had the Class of 2018. There were a few young gentlemen who shared my love of tools, carpentry, and country music. They would stay after school and help me build classroom projects, including a bench that would become our 8th Grade Class Gift. We learned so much in those times, and it was great for all of us to let our guard down a little and learn more about each other. For a couple of those students, I was honored to write them letters of recommendation and follow them through their educational careers. We still keep in touch and see each other, and they are now having great success working in trades – using the gifts and talents God gave them along with the knowledge and experience that we cultivated together all those years ago.

My Hobbies Outside Of School

I am pretty sure that everyone knows I LOVE tools. I was a contractor for a year when the teaching thing wasn’t working out. I also spent a year teaching Home Economics in Buffalo – so I do really enjoy cooking and sewing. I’m not really a pet person, but we do have 7 chickens and 2 cats. We had a snake for a while and that was actually really cool. I might break down and buy another. I’m not really a big traveler, I like to be at home. Anytime I am fixing something, I always look up how to do it on YouTube, which I’m sure parents will find interesting, but is actually one of the greatest learning tools ever created – if you use it the right way!
